The 2018 Spectrum Trail Run Series 

PE’s Original Trail Run Series


This year will mark the 7th Edition of PE’s original 3 race trail run series.

From its beginnings as the Baakens Trail Series back in 2011, through its change in 2015 into the popular Spectrum Trail Run Series as its known today, this event has something to offer trail runners of all abilities.

Choose from the short series (5km, 8km, 5km) or take on the challenge of the long series (11km, 8km, 18km).

Experience the thrill & excitement of night trail running on race 2.

Puma are donating an awesome pair of Puma Trail Shoes per race as a lucky draw, and there will be other lucky draw prizes as well.

We’ll have ECMR on standby for any potential medical mishaps, and Bradbury Protection Services will be providing event security all around the race routes.

Nuun will be providing post race finisher drinks to top up your electolyte levels.

Bridge Street Brewery will be offering a buy 1, get 1 free beer special to all race entrants - just hand in your race number after the race to claim yours.

18km Trail Run Info

  • Sunday 3 June at 8am

  • Individual pre-entries close on Friday 1 June 2017 for the 18km.
  • Registration and late entry will be on Saturday 2 June from 5pm – 7pm and on the day from 6am to 7.30am.
  • Race briefing is at 7:45am.
  • 18km starts at 8am.
  • There will be 2 water points, but we advise runners to carry their own water.
  • The course is undulating and technical, with water crossings.
  • Prize giving will be at 11am.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the 1st male and 1st female.

5km Trail Run / Walk Info

  • Saturday 26 May at 2.10pm and Sunday 3 June at 8.10am

  • Pre-entries close on 24 May and 1 June for the 5km trail runs.
  • Children under 10 years old may enter as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
  • Registration and late entry will be on Friday 25 May between 5pm and 7pm and on Saturday 26 May between 12 noon and 1.30pm for the first race, as well as on Saturday 2 June from 5pm – 7pm and Sunday 25 June from 6am to 7.30am for the second race.
  • Race briefing is at 2.05pm on 26 May and at 8.05pm on 3 June.
  • The 5km run starts at 2.10pm on 26 May, and at 8.10am on 3 June.
  • The course has a few hills and is easier than the longer runs but there are still water crossings.
  • The 5km entrants are encouraged to carry their own water if necessary, as there are no water points on the routes.
  • Prize giving will be held at the same time as the longer runs on the day.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the 1st male and female in each race.
  • Walkers are welcome!

General Event Info

Runners can enter individual events or the full series.

 

The LONG Series is for the runners that want to take part in the 11km trail run, the 8km night trail run and the 18km trail run

The SHORT Series is for the runners that want to take part in the two 5k runs plus the 8k night trail run

The first 100 series entrants will also receive a unique event headpiece to wear out on the trails.

We strongly encourage all runners to pre-enter online.

Late entries will be accepted at registration for all events, but a late entry fee of R30 will be charged.

Late entry and registration will take place at the Bridge Street Brewery, 1 Bridge Street, at the bottom of Brickmakerskloof, which is also the start/finish for the series.

The routes will be well-marked, but please attend and listen at race briefings, as this will benefit you on the trails.

There will be river crossings on all the routes, and depending on the water levels, your feet may get wet! If the Baakens River is flowing strongly safety measures will be put in place, and there will be assistance provided at all river crossings, if deemed necessary.

It is advised that each runner carry a hydration pack, fuel belt or water bottle.

There will be a sweeper on the course for each event.

This is a green series so no litter will be tolerated, and anyone seen littering on the course will be disqualified.

Please discard any litter at the water point.

Medics will be present on the course to ensure each runners safety, but every participant must complete their medical details and sign the indemnity form in the online registration form.

Any medical costs incurred by a race participant will not be covered by the race organisers, sponsors or NMB municipality, and you enter the race at your own risk.

The race organizers reserve the right to cancel any of the trail runs in the event of extreme weather conditions, which could endanger the participants.

Overall LONG series prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, and this prize giving will take place at 12pm on 3 June 2018.

Series and race 1 entries close at midnight on Thursday 24 May 2018.

Race 2 entries close at midnight on Wednesday 30 May.

Race 3 entries close at midnight on Friday 1 June

8km Night Trail Run Info

  • Thursday 31 May at 6.30pm

  • Pre-entries close on 30 May 2018.
  • Children under 10 years old may enter as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
  • Registration and late entry will be on Thursday 31 May between 4.30pm and 6.15pm.
  • Race briefing is at 6.20pm.
  • The 8km run starts at 6.30pm on 31 May.
  • The course has a few hills and there are water crossings.
  • 8km entrants are encouraged to carry their own water if necessary, as there are no water points.
  • Prize giving will be held at 8pm.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the 1st male and female in each race.
  • ALL ATHLETES ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY A TORCH OR WEAR A HEADLAMP

11km Trail Run Info

  • Saturday 26 May 2018 at 2pm

  • Pre-entries close on Thursday 24 May 2018 for the 11km.
  • Registration and late entry will be on Friday 25 May between 5pm and 7pm and on the day between 12 noon and 1.30pm.
  • Race briefing is at 1.50pm.
  • The 11km race starts at 2pm.
  • There will be one water point on the route at roughly halfway.
  • The course is undulating and technical in some sections, with water crossings.
  • Prize giving will be at 4.00pm or when the last runner is off the course.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the 1st male and 1st female.
